Common engagement types in Tokyo

On-site work in Tokyo is mostly these rooms.

  • Korean and Western executive visits to Japan

Inbound executive meetings, board reporting, IR roadshow legs, and factory visits to Yokohama and Kawasaki manufacturing sites.

  • M&A and IR with Japanese counterparties

Due diligence sessions, negotiation rounds, earnings interpretation. Especially common in Korea–Japan and US–Japan transactions.

  • International conferences and trade shows

Tokyo Big Sight, Makuhari Messe, and central Tokyo venues. Simultaneous booths are staffed as a team, with handoff protocols agreed in advance.

Each engagement gets its own test, built for that room: reading “難しいですね” as the polite no it usually is, rendering politeness levels, recognizing indirect refusals. Whatever the request actually needs.

How it works

  1. 01

Takes 10 minutes. Enter your language pairs, specialties, and service types. Then add Tokyo to your profile's Active Regions.

  2. 02

    Profile approval

Upload your résumé and a profile photo. The MetaPret team reviews them and verifies your profile.

  3. 03

    A test per engagement

When a request comes in, a test is built for that request's field and format. The test opens once the client confirms the request, and we email you when it does.

  4. 04

    Match and pay

Interpreters are picked from candidates whose test has been scored and confirmed. MetaPret sets the pay per project based on its scope and conditions.

Tiers

  • Senior
  • Junior
  • Associate

The MetaPret team sets your tier when you're verified, and can move it up as your record grows. That record is the work you finish through MetaPret.

Tests are scored on three qualitative axes: content fidelity, target-language fluency, and delivery. The scores stay internal.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to live in Tokyo?

No. Your profile keeps your home city separate from your Active Regions, where you can list every city you can work in. Add Tokyo there and you'll get alerts for on-site Tokyo engagements. These are on-site jobs, so you need to be in Tokyo on the dates of the engagement you apply to.

Can I take only weekend or short, one-off engagements?

Yes. Engagements are posted one at a time, and each posting lists its dates. Apply only to the ones that fit your schedule.

Can I apply with no experience?

Yes. Registering has no experience requirement. Each request is decided by its own test in the field, so the skill you show there is what gets you matched.

Which language pairs can I apply with?

Tokyo engagements are mostly Japanese–English and Japanese–Korean. Each posting lists its language pair, and you apply to the ones that match the pairs you entered when you signed up. New-engagement alerts follow the same pairs.

How is pay set?

MetaPret sets per-project pay based on the project's scope and conditions. The interpreter pay is shown on each posting.

When do I take the test?

The test opens once the client confirms the request. Apply, and we'll email you when the test opens.

Can I use MetaPret alongside my agency?

Yes. MetaPret runs alongside agencies. It's one more path to work, not a replacement for anything.

Testing interpreters isn't strange. Not testing them is.
