Thai is tonal, classifier-heavy, and written without spaces, and its politeness system is unusually load-bearing: kreng jai (เกรงใจ) — a deference that avoids imposing — shapes how a Thai counterpart says no without saying no. A fluent speaker still routinely flattens a number, softens a defect, or reads a polite deferral as agreement. In a factory or a negotiation the cost of that is concrete: a mis-cut order, a slipped tolerance, a delayed container.
This is why a bilingual staff member or a supplier's own interpreter is a weak substitute for a meeting that decides money. A supplier-provided interpreter answers to the supplier. A conversationally fluent hire may miss the register of a contract clause or a quality dispute.
